The Yellow Fairy BookLang s collection had been edited by Brian Alderson Edited here means that Brian made whatever he thought necessary to make these palatable to a modern audience I m not to argue the pros and cons f those decisions what I will do is give my American Yakuza II opinion that if Mr Alderson wanted to put together a acceptable collectionf fairy tales then he should have done so with his wn book He shouldn "t have been given Andrew Lang s collection and then been given free rein to decide whether the versions Lang "have been given Andrew Lang s collection and then been given free rein to decide whether the versions Lang were appropriate r the most readable Love Onboard: Cupid's Caribbean Cruise or whatever Partf the charm Vertical Mind: Psychological Approaches for Optimal Rock Climbing of the Blue Fairy Book as I recall was that I knew even as a youngster in the late 1970s that I was stepping into a different time period an era that believed in fairies and magic and dragons etc and a time period that may have thoughtther things that were no longer true as well I knew that this time period didn t represent my time period and I didn t expect it to But setting aside the rightness Blood Love of whether he should have made the choices at all I also have trouble with somef the choices themselves he tells us that he has gotten rid f some f Lang s selections because they weren t interesting but then he keeps variations f stories that are virtually the same For example we have multiple variations f the simpleton r the least favored r what have you winning the day through virtue f having made the right friends gluttons who can eat everything men who can make things cold r can see great distances friends who can help him perform the impossible tasks reuired f him If the point is to have a better ffering DIY, Dammit!: A Practical Guide to Curse-Free Crafting of stories all arond then I would think variety would be a good standard to meet as wellOverall still a good selectionf fairy tales that should appeal to young readers and I did enjoy them Just not uite as much as expected First posted n my blog My Reader s Block Please reuest permission before reposting Thanks If fairy stories can t get a five star rating then what is ur standard Five stars to Andrew Lang and his magnificent collection f colored fairy stories This Yellow ne is Civil rights, tool of communist deception onef my favorites Real fairy stories with real conseuences Haven t uite enjoyed it as much as the previous tomes I ve considered some stories to be a bit vulgar to be read to kid. Touch it till we are in want' So the little pot was placed in safety; but it was not long before the Cat had a great longing for it and said to the Mouse 'I wanted to tell you little Mouse that my cousin has a little son white with brown spots and she wants me to be godmother to it Let me go ut to day and do you take care f the house alone'.
